One thing I LOVE is to light candles. I think they really tie a place together. Place a candle (scented ones are the best) on your desk, light it up when you study, or even when you’re just enjoying a random YouTube video.

Rearranging is FREE! Shift your bed and desk and whatever other furniture you have to maximise space. Use a wall for posters. You don’t need to go out and buy super expensive art, just print some off Pinterest that match your aesthetic.
Fairy lights. You don’t even need to buy any. Just use the ones your parents bought for Christmas or Diwali and you’re all set. Warm lighting makes everything softer, including you.

Your room shouldn’t feel like a storage unit for your stress and mess. It should feel like a place you’re comfortable in and would want to come back to.

Reinvent, Don’t Replace
Turn your old shirts and tops into cute cushion covers (if you don’t know how to stitch, fabric glue exists). Maybe something frilly or some cool graphic T-shirt you no longer wear.

I always have jars and boxes laying around, and recently I decided to stop buying more jewelry boxes and start using glass jars to organise them. They not only look pretty on shelves but have lids which also prevents your jewelry from getting oxidised.
As an absolute hater of overconsumption and late-stage capitalism, I love finding ways to reuse and recycle everything I own. Redecorating doesn’t mean replacing everything. It means seeing what you already own differently.
Comfort Corner
Your whole room doesn’t need to be WOW; just a part of it can be. Choose a corner and make it a place you love. Add some throw pillows, blankets, a tiny side table for snacks and books, and a warm yellow lamp to create a cozy nook.

The 10 Minute Reset
Take a good look at your room. Is it plain boring, or is it just messy? Sometimes you just need to clean up.
Set a 10-minute timer for yourself and choose one surface to clean; it could be your desk, a pile of clothes, or even just remaking your bed. There’s this quote I read somewhere recently, that your room is a reflection of your mind. A clean room essentially equals a calm mind.

Personally, with my ADHD, I find it very difficult to clean, but I’ve realised how much better I feel and work when my surroundings are tidy.
Change the Walls
I know a lot of people live in rented homes where we can’t repaint the walls (I do too and my room has a horrid wallpaper). A great way to get rid of basic white walls or ugly wallpapers is to hang things up, like fabric (steal your mom's dupattas or sarees, or hang some cute scarves up), a photo grid of your friends and family, or even a big stick-on mirror.

Upgrade Your Study Desk
I love romanticising studying, so I always have some cute stuff around to gaslight myself into thinking studying is fun. Decorating your desk with some candles, small plants (can be fake, I always end up killing mine), cute trays for chapstick and perfume, a pretty pen stand (or a DIY one; I have a Monster can as my pen stand), a mini to-do list stuck on the wall, etc. The opportunities are endless.

Takeaways
You don’t need a ton of money and a shopping spree to make your room look nice. Sometimes, you just need to move things around, let go of things that don’t feel like you anymore, and light a candle while you figure yourself out (we all are).
Your room grows with you. Let it.
