A Look Into The Past

Almost a decade ago the original Inside Out movie came out, and it was also a huge hit. Just saying nearly a decade ago makes me feel old. The first movie was a heart-wrenching movie that I loved.

In this first film we started with Sadness, Disgust, Joy, and Fear and who could forget Anger? These were iconic characters and I am proud they are back in this new movie.

Present Day

In the second movie, we are introduced to three new very accurate characters in a teenage world. We have Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and The Boredom!

I believe that this movie is a perfect representation of a teen from early teen years to early adulthood. My favorite character was Anxiety who was one of the more prominent characters. I loved how anxiety is portrayed in this film.

It gave me a new viewpoint and perspective on how anxiety can be seen. The Boredom is a character that acts pretty much how he’s named. He is the character that exhibits the “I’m Fine” and all of the boredom that we teens experience. We tend to be extremely nonchalant to play things off as cool.

Envy is exactly how she sounds, envious. As teens, we always compare our bodies and everything that everyone else has. We tend to be envious so this character was definitely on point for me.

Lastly, we have Embarrassment. I get embarrassed quite a bit by the silliest things. So this character resembled me. Embarrassment can happen anywhere. You could end up waving at someone you thought was waving at you, but wasn't. You might even freeze in front of your class during a speech. Embarrassment is a part of all of our lives.

Take the Quiz: Which Inside Out Character Are You?

Inside Out is a classic but what character matches you best?

What I have Learned from This Movie

Your feelings and memories do not define you or create your future. You might have some sort of bad experience like a breakup or a bad test grade but you should remember that those things do not define you. I have fallen victim to this so many times.

I think this was one of the main messages that was stressed in this movie.Your friendship is so important! No matter what, you should always prioritize your friendships. Old and new. In this movie, Riley chooses to ditch her old friends to become cool in the eyes of her new hockey team. That never is okay. She paid the price for it. Always be there for your friends.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. I promise that everyone makes mistakes and it is normal. You aren’t going to be perfect all the time and this movie made it very clear.

The character's Anxiety did the job of causing Riley to overthink and to doubt herself. This caused Riley to feel bad about herself. Don’t destroy yourself, and your self-worth and confidence over one situation. As tempting as it may be, don’t throw away bad memories. They help make you into the person you are today. The person you are becoming depends on all of your memories, both bad and good. You learn so much from these experiences. Joy had a habit of throwing out all the bad memories and this caused so many issues in Riley's world. Be yourself and stay true to yourself. The best you, and the best version of you is the authentic you. I think you need to let yourself be free to feel your emotions. I want you to learn from this movie that you need to be confident in yourself. Your feelings and your memories do not make your confidence. I want you to feel happy, I want you to believe that you are a good person. I want you to know that you are a good person. Being successful and having friends does not define if you are a good person. I wasn’t you to be able to look in the mirror and see a person you are proud of. Someone strong and amazing! This movie will teach you that. I promise you that.

Takeaways

All of your feelings are important! Suppressing certain emotions can lead to issues in the future as well. Be sure to express all of your feelings.

Remember that your sarcasm is so important in your teenage years. You don't always have to worry about the future. The future will worry about itself. Try to live in the moment and remember the ups and downs you experience do not define you. These moments help you to grow. Lastly, sometimes you have to be sad. Let all your emotions out when you can.

More of My Review

I love this week it touches my heart. I found it very relatable in all aspects of my life. I’m in my mid-teenages and this movie expertly captures what we teens go through when we 1st become teenagers and as time goes on.

With that being said, I need you to go watch this movie! You will not regret it. But as a quick warning: you might tear up a little bit.
