With styles ever-changing and new trends constantly taking the fashion-verse by storm, classic pieces can easily be forgotten. However, fashion is cyclic; what goes around, is bound to come back around and there are quintessential looks that will forever remain iconic.
Every year and every season that passes leaves a mark on the longevity of fashion; with the likes of the ‘70s introducing bohemian flared trousers and tumultuous tie-dye, and the ‘80s coining punk fashion with lots of leather and even more perms. Within each of these eras, there are pieces that have remained in style and have been rewritten to the culture of society today.
Here are some of the classic trends that have persisted in all their splendour and have remained in vogue.
The decade of the 1950s shone light on circle skirts (alike to the new in craze ‘midi-skirt’). Since, the midi-skirt has stayed consistent and have been rejuvenated for the summer season of 2019. Midi-skirts have taken the fashion world by storm and can be seen in every high street shop window; adorned with animal prints to block neon colouring, there is a midi-skirt out there for everybody.
If you ventured to a festival last summer, you would have seen a whole sea of neon streetwear. The neon colour scheme was all the hype in the ‘90s and remains popular in 2019.
Chic sunglasses styles vary season to season; however, aviator style sunglasses have remained as everlastingly fashionable. Whether in 1936 when they first appeared on the scene, or in 2019, nothing says fashion like aviator sunglasses.
Leopard print, zebra stripes, snakeskin and many more; animal print has remained iconic for decades and has certainly still has bite. Truly making a comeback in 2018, leopard print especially has certainly remained equally as popular in 2019.
Tie-dye, I believe, is like Marmite. You are either utterly obsessed with it, or absolutely despise it. Love it or hate it though, tie-dye has stuck around since the ‘70s and shows no sign yet of ceasing remaining an iconic print through the decades.
The Little Black Dress
The little black dress; so iconic, One Direction wrote a whole song about it.
Karl Lagerfeld once said, “One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a little black dress” and a truer statement hasn’t been made since. Dressed up or dressed down, the little black dress is versatile, timeless and a staple item that every girl needs in their wardrobe.
