How To Rock Summer Festivals Being Eco Friendly

Festival Season is in session! This summer, if you are attending any festivals or outdoor concerts, remember the impact these shows put on the environment and cities they take place in. With that in mind, I have some tips for you on how to be more environmentally conscious while rocking out.

1. Carpool With People

A great way to save on travel, create bomb playlists, be with friends or family, is to travel together to your destination. UberPool, uber together, or drive together and make an adventure out of it. Pack some great snacks, challenge everyone to make playlists, play car games, and make less of a carbon footprint carpooling to places.

2. Take With You Some Utensils

Some of the best parts of festivals are experiencing the food and how over the top and Instagram worthy some of the meals you get to have will be.

But what we may not consider is the amount of plastic that also is being used to eat this gooey, spicey, sweet, or delicious meal. So, beforehand bring with you some compostable utensils, edible cutlery, or reusable eco plant-based utensils.

Along with your eco cutlery, bring with you refillable containers for water or drinks and for your food.

Lastly, don't forget the motto of the year we have all been seeing all over social media "Save the Turtles" and get yourself some paper, bamboo, or steel metal straws.

With all of these sets, you and your friends can enjoy the amazing food and make smaller impacts once the festival is over.

3. Use Eco-Friendly Sunscreen

Being under the sun for long hours can be harmful to our skin so prep your day with sunscreen, moisturizer, sunglasses, and a hat.

Sunscreen packaging ends up in our oceans and can be harmful to a lot of marine life as well. On land, it can also take hundreds of years to degrade if it even does and can affect our soil, water supply, and waste treatment. Chemicals found in sunscreen can also be detrimental to Earth. So always read the labels to see if a product makes less of an impact.

4. Switch to Biodegradable Glitter

I for one absolutely love body, hair, and face glitter and will take a chance to use it anywhere even if it takes forever to get it out after. But, with the process of glitter getting everywhere at parties, concerts, or festivals biodegradable glitter is safe for the environment just like it is for my body.

So not only will you be looking sparkly and cute, you will be helping the environment!

5. Try Vegan Foods

When you are out exploring the grounds get food from local vendors, organic meals, or even try something new in the vegan section. Maybe you will have a newfound love of this and want to incorporate it into your everyday life or swap snacks for some of these alternatives.

This is the veggie burger from Shake Shack and can be made vegan if requested.
