How to Achieve the Perfect Nighttime Routine

Beauty & Style

September 21, 2022

In a complicated society, nighttime routines allow time to rest after a difficult day, because more than ever, it is crucial to decrease stress and prepare for what is to come. Here are useful steps to incorporate into your bedtime routine.

#1. Cold Showers

After a long shift, a cold shower is the perfect way to cool off and replenish your energy. A thorough cleansing of the face/hair is called for after a day spent in September’s early heat. Consider applying lotion or other products that bring your skin to life.

If it is a chilly or rainy day, lukewarm showers or soapy baths are also beneficial. Comfort is one of the most significant parts of a perfect nighttime routine.

#2. Drink a Cup of Tea

A warm, inviting cup of savory tea is the perfect way to unwind after a busy evening. Consume unsweetened, decaffeinated teas for a restful sleep. Chamomile and peppermint tea are my personal favorites. If you aren’t a tea fan, sparkling water or warm milk are great alternatives to enjoy in the later hours of the evening.

#3. Read a Section of a Book

It’s time to read the novel that is collecting dust on your bookshelf. One or two chapters of a tale a night can sharpen your critical thinking skills. Meet the great characters of the literary world and experience the joys of reading.

For a shorter nighttime routine, a fifteen minute reading session is recommended. Feel free to pass this time limit. Every reader’s preferences are different!

#4. Apply Chapstick

This is a small step that makes a big difference, especially during winter months. Chapstick and lip balms keep your lips soft and smooth by protecting them in dryer climates. If you are allergic to any chemicals or ingredients in any product, please take the necessary precautions.

It is not recommended to apply chapstick every night because your lips can become irritated. Consult your physician for more information.

#5. Update Your Planner for Tomorrow

Write down any tasks you must fulfill to clear your mind. Are there any meetings or events occurring this weekend? Keep your planner organized and legible instead of hastily writing jumbled notes.

Updating your schedule and to-dos gives you something to look forward to in the morning. Keep your planner or notes on your nightstand so you can review its contents when you awaken. This simple habit will give you a sense of ownership and pride.

#6. Journal

Before you start another day, is there anything left hanging on your mind? An issue or event that you must share with someone who isn’t available? Journaling is here to help.

Crisp, blank paper is here to “listen”. A safe place, a journal is.

Try writing down your feelings, observations, or dreams. This will end your day with a pleasant, indescribable fulfillment. Later, you can reflect and use the journal’s content for a greater understanding of yourself.

#7. Listen to Classical Music

Lavish in the richness of classical melodies! The soothing sounds of cellos and pianos played by experienced musicians can allure you into a deeper state of slumber. Listening to compositions from the great music eras of the world can be quite a soulful, moving experience. Try listening to pieces within these categories:

  • FrĂ©dĂ©ric Chopin’s Nocturnes
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphonies
  • Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonatas
  • Claude Debussy’s Preludes

#8. Spend Time With Your Pets

Curl up with your fluffy friend to add to the coziness of the dark, blessed nights. Your loving companion will draw you away from your worries to the present moment. Don’t forget to hand out an occasional treat! If you do not have a pet or cannot interact well with yours (fish, turtles, or lizards), contacting your loved ones can brighten your mood for a better tomorrow.

#9. Positive Affirmations

Before sleeping, tell yourself a positive affirmation to end the day on a cheerful note. Here are a few phrases which can improve your mental health and self-esteem:

  • “I am enough.”
  • “Good work today.”
  • “In hopes of a good morning, a better future, and a long life.”
  • “In this busy world lies a peaceful night.”

Remind yourself that you are a beloved, beautiful person in this world. This will soothe even the worst of days, because with courage, there will always be delights you have yet to enjoy.

Everyone deserves time to decompress and unwind before sleeping. With the perfect nighttime routine, you can reflect on the events of each day without taking time out of your busy schedule. Rest assured, your rest will be assured. Sweet dreams!
