Streaming music is one of the best ways to support any artist, but purchasing physical or electronic copies of music is even better. Artists don't get paid a lot from streaming services even though it is the most accessible source for music, so doubling down by purchasing a copy of a CD or Vinyl, will help fund local musicians even more than streaming.
Of course, it's easier to stream music, but there's nothing like holding a physical copy of your favorite artist's record and being able to admire it in all its glory, while also sustaining the artist's pockets so they can make more music for the community to enjoy!

As previously stated, almost anyone with access to a device is able to stream music anywhere in the world! The more times you hit replay on a track, the more play counts it gets, which amplifies the song even more. If a song gains traction from being played over and over again, it climbs the music charts and could even get featured on the radio.
For most, if not, all local musicians, getting your song played on the local radio station means you've made it, and the possibilities for what's to come next are endless! That's why streaming and purchasing music is so crucial to boosting your favorite local artists.
2. Attend Live Shows
The most effective way to show your support for artists is to show up to their concerts! The heart of an artist shines during their live performances and, by showing up to express your dedication as a fan, you will inevitably fuel the artist's ambitions to keep going on their music journey.
Fans are hands down the backbone of the music industry. Without a fanbase full of love and support, artists wouldn't be successful, so by spreading the word of shows in the area, you are contributing to the long and treacherous journey of an aspiring artist. That being said, there is even more of a chance for a local artist to notice you, since they are smaller than mainstream artists, which is always a plus!
Not to mention that part of the money that's made from the shows is given to the artists and their productions, which helps fund the attributes that go into creating a live show's atmosphere. That means paying for sound and light technicians accordingly, because without them there wouldn't be a show.
Overall, attending live performances of local artists not only support the performer(s) you're seeing, but also has a huge impact on the people who help create the show itself. It's a win-win for everyone involved!
3. Learn Concert Ettiquete
There's nothing more infuriating than being next to someone at a concert who screams while an artist is performing a slower-paced song. It's rude to the fellow concert-goers around you, but also to the artist, especially during the more intimate moments of a set. Being able to be mindful and respectful of others around you at a concert goes a long way for the local music scene as a whole.

This applies to the openers of a concert too. There have been countless times in my own experience at concerts, where people openly talk over the opener's set; clearly not even pretending to give them their full attention. It's one thing if their music isn't of your taste or you simply haven't heard of them, but having loud conversations with friends while an artist is performing is careless for the artist's sake and the people around you.
Understanding polite concert etiquette will make the experience more enjoyable for everyone, so we can all have a memorable experience seeing the musicians we love.
4. Purchase Merchandise
Showcasing an artist through clothing or apparel is a great way of contributing to their brand and helps put their name out there.
When you buy their merchandise, you provide direct financial support to the artists, enabling them to invest in their craft, record new music, and pursue their creative endeavors. Your purchase helps to cover production costs, equipment improvements, and marketing efforts, which are vital for local artists to gain visibility and expand their reach into the world.
Additionally, buying their merchandise creates a sense of validation and encouragement for the artists, reinforcing their passion and dedication to their passion. By flashing around their t-shirts, displaying their albums, or promoting their logo, you become a walking advertisement, that could even introduce others to their music.
Overall, your support not only fuels the artist's individual success but also contributes to the overall growth and vibrancy of the local music scene, nurturing a diverse and thriving community of musicians and music lovers.
5. Repost on Social Media
In today's digital age, the power of social media in boosting the visibility and success of local music artists cannot be underestimated. Platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok have become virtual stages for aspiring musicians to showcase their talent and connect with a global audience. By leveraging these platforms strategically, local artists have been able to cultivate a devoted fan base, gain recognition, and even secure record deals.
From sharing captivating live performances to releasing snippets of unreleased tracks, social media offers a direct and immediate connection between artists and their fans, breaking down traditional barriers and fostering a sense of intimacy. With the ability to go viral within hours, these platforms have transformed the music industry, allowing talented individuals to rise from obscurity to stardom with just a few clicks, solidifying the notion that social media truly serves as a powerful catalyst for the success of local music artists everywhere and beyond.
