"By all means, move at a glacial pace." After a nearly twenty-year wait, The Devil Wears Prada is back! The sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, will premiere in theaters later this year. Fans are over the moon because they get to reconnect with some of their favorite characters and the world of Runway Magazine.
We can expect this movie to have great writing, a star-studded cast and, most importantly, fantastic fashion. When it came out in 2006, The Devil Wears Prada instantly became a hit. Now, it is a cult classic movie from the 2000s, bringing fans back to the glamorous (and sometimes not-so glamorous) world of fashion in New York City. In the original movie, Andy Sachs is an aspiring journalist. She has a degree from Northwestern University and has moved to New York City with her boyfriend. She takes an interview at Runway Magazine, where she is hired to be Miranda Priestly's personal assistant despite her lack of fashion knowledge. Priestly is notorious for being harsh and extremely difficult to work for.
Sachs does not fit in at Runway — she lacks style and knowledge about anything in the realm of fashion. According to Miranda, Sachs "has no style or sense of fashion." Additionally, she is failing at the tasks that Priestly assigned, giving off the impression that she does not care about her job. Nigel, another worker at Runway, takes her under his wing, giving her a makeover and inspiring her to begin caring about her appearance.
After watching her shift and newfound love for the Runway Magazine lifestyle, Priestly begins to tolerate Sachs. She quickly outperforms Priestley's other assistant, Emily Charlton, who is dying (kind of literally) to go to Paris Fashion Week with her boss. When Charlton slips up and forgets a name, Priestly decides that Sachs will accompany her to Paris instead of Charlton.
Sachs' boyfriend breaks up with her, saying that she has become another basic Runway girl. She then leaves for Paris, where she realizes that she has become obsessed with all of the things she used to be against. Sachs quits her job at Runway, trying to get back on her original journalistic path.

Basic Information
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will premiere in theaters on May 1, 2026. Yes, the long wait between the original movie and the sequel is almost over (thank God). The movie began filming in June 2025 and wrapped in October 2025. It is produced by Disney and directed by David Frankel.
Frankel directed the original film, so luckily, we will not have a shift in the director's vision. Frankel did a fantastic job with the first movie, so hopefully, he will continue his genius and make the sequel just as iconic.
Cast
"Oh, don't be ridiculous. Everyone wants this. Everyone wants to be us."
And many fashionistas would love to have the job of the characters in this film. Many aspiring actors or even movie fanatics dream of being a cast member of a movie that is as iconic as The Devil Wears Prada. Luckily for both groups, we can live vicariously through this movie and its characters/cast once again.
Anne Hathaway will return as Andy Sachs, along with Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as Nigel. There will be new characters as well. Kenneth Branagh will play Miranda Priestly's husband.
He will be joined by Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet, Justin Theroux and B.J. Novak.
Of course, The Devil Wears Prada would be nothing without its "devil." That is right: Meryl Streep will resume her role of intense editor Miranda Priestly.

Plot
While we do not have confirmed details right now, here are the hints we have gotten, along with some theories from the original book series.
The movie follows Miranda Priestly during the decline of print media and traditional magazine publishing. Emily Charlton is now an executive for a luxury company, which has advertising money that Priestley has a desperate need for. Andy Sachs is now a digital media executive who has to work with her former boss again when Priestley struggles to adapt to the digital world.
It could also follow the plot of the book's sequel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. In this novel, both Sachs and Charlton are executives, starting a bridal magazine called The Plunge together. Priestly wants to buy their magazine for her publishing company, which Sachs resists.
However, Sachs has trauma from her time working for Priestly and cannot fathom having to work for her again. Sachs is also now married to an executive and is pregnant.

Opinions
I think that both of these plotlines could be interesting. I really like how the new version follows the realistic conflict of print media adapting to the digital world. As a journalism major, I have learned about how many different magazines are shifting to digital content, and more importantly, how they differentiate and keep their websites engaging.
However, I think a combination of both would be the best option. In the original movie, we saw Sachs' personal life explode. It would be interesting in this movie to see the contrast between her old judgmental boyfriend and her new successful executive husband.
One element that I hope is done well — or even not included — is her pregnancy. While this is a big part of the book, Sachs has always been career-oriented and goal-driven. It is nice to see an ambitious female role model on our screens.
If the pregnancy element is included, I hope that it is done tastefully. By this, I mean that Sachs can continue her successful career while simultaneously juggling motherhood. Honestly, it would ruin her character if she gave up everything she has worked so hard to accomplish.
Conclusion
I hope you are all excited for May 1, because I definitely am. The Devil Wears Prada has always been an enjoyable movie that helps you escape reality. Similar to Miranda Priestly's high standards for her employees, fans have high standards for the sequel to this movie. Soon, we will find out if this edition of The Devil Wears Prada is just as groundbreaking as florals for spring and the first film. "That's All."
