On July 19, 2025, during Billie Eilish's tour for her album Hit Me Hard and Soft in Manchester, she opened up to the crowd that James Cameron, famously known for being the director behind Avatar and Titanic, was a part of the audience, and he wasn't there just for the music; the concert was being filmed for a secret 3D film project directed by him.
So, you may have noticed that there are more cameras than usual up here. Basically, I can’t say much about it, but what I can say is I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron, and it’s going to be in 3D. So, take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him.
He’s in this audience somewhere, just saying. So don’t mind that, and also I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row. -- Billie Eilish at her Manchester Concert.
Furthermore, James Cameron also revealed that he was the one who came up with the idea of shooting Eilish's tour in 3D as he is a close friend of her mother, Maggie Baird.

It is scheduled to be released in theatres (United States) on May 8, 2026 by Paramount Pictures. It was first planned to be ready for release on March 20, however, it was postponed to May to integrate new 3D technology and some behind-the-scenes, as disclosed by the co-director James Cameron. This is actually the 24-year old singer-songwriter's second concert film after Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, which features her performances of all 16 tracks from her second studio album, and was released in 2021.
On another exciting note, Billie will also be making her film acting debut in a film adaptation of Sylvia Plath's beloved and celebrated novel The Bell Jar, directed by Sarah Polley, which is still in development.
Final Thoughts
As a fellow Billie Eilish fan, I absolutely cannot wait to see performances from Hit Me Hard and Soft delivering the energy, the thrills and emotions of the tour and the concerts on the big screen! So, with that, I'm going to "bite my tongue, bide my time" waiting for May to arrive. (See what I did there? Hope you got the reference!) Personally, I'm really excited to see CHIHIRO and BIRDS OF A FEATHER come to life with this theatric adventure! Feel free to drop your favourite tracks from Hit Me Hard and Soft in the comments as well!
