"I am going to jump off a cliff."

No, you beautiful person. You are going to learn better stress management techniques. And I am going to teach you how. Now, take a deep breath, or scream into your pillow, whichever calms you down, and tell yourself that everything is going to turn out exactly how you imagined it would, and let's start.

Stress is something all teens struggle with in their daily lives. From managing everyday classes, extracurriculars, exams, and social interactions, stress becomes an everyday companion of a teen. And it's no surprise that it's the reason so many things seem more complicated and overwhelming than they are.

And I get it. At times, it is very hard to escape the clutches of this monster, but managing your stress is the ultimate way of regaining control in everyday life and not thinking about all the possible worst-case scenarios every time an inconvenience shows up.

Stress Management - The Catalyst To Calm:

Knowing how to manage stress is not something you are born with. It's a skill you develop through trial and error, just like any other. It may require some extra time and effort, but in the end, it's worth it. There are many ways you can choose to manage stress, but below are my favourites.

Activate Your Subconscious:

This is honestly one of my most used tips whenever I feel stressed. Your mind is divided into two parts. Conscious, which means that this is the part responsible for helping you in the now. And then there is the subconscious, which is the part responsible for helping you in everything.

Your subconscious is the part that retains information about every single experience you have ever been through and files away the rational data you need in your life. And in times of stress, this part can help you navigate by providing you with the facts you need.

There are many ways of activating your subconsciousness, but my favourite is talking to myself. Whenever I have a conversation with myself, and I put into words whatever I am going through, I always get an answer rooted in facts rather than just worry. This answer may come in the form of a thought or realization, but it always comes.

Take A Walk:

This may seem like repeated advice when it comes to dealing with stress, but it works. When you get up and move your body, it physically forces your brain to break the train of thought, even if for a little while. And it doesn't matter where you are taking that walk. You could just move around in your room as long as it means you are moving your body.

Just Do It:

Jeff Bezos once said,

"Stress primarily comes from not taking action over something that you can have some control over."

I love this quote because it reminds me that if my stress is related to something I can do, then it is controllable. Trust me, I have had my fair share of nights lying awake in bed thinking about everything I needed to do. In those times, whenever I have chosen to just get up and do the work, even if for 5 minutes, it has paid off. If you are going through the same problem, I suggest just getting up and tackling whatever is bothering you.

Try Talking To Others:

Talking to others is best when you are stressed about things like exams, studies, or extracurriculars, because your peers may be worried about them too. It helps both of you when you share things and puts things into perspective because sometimes, stress really tends to blow things out of proportion.

Sharing your problems with your friends is both an outlet and a way to rationalize your anxiety so you can achieve mental peace.

To Sum It Up:

Managing stress is a skill every teen needs to develop to ensure they live a life rooted in calmness rather than restlessness. There are a thousand ways by which you can put a stop to the thoughts swirling around your head, but the ones I have included above are some I have tried myself, and they have helped me many times. And I really hope they help you, too!
