3 Books to Get You Out of a Reading Slump

Personal Growth

I know you all are probably in a reading slump, looking for some new fall reads, or quick and easy reads whether it be for class, work, anything! Here are a few reads that you should read ASAP!

1. Legend by Marie Lu

Legend is a dystopian novel with a little bit of every genre for readers. It's like the Everything Bagel for books! It is about a rebellious teen, Day, trying to cause chaos and havoc for the Republic.

This is because the Republic only supports the higher-classmen, and don't want to help the minority---they could care less about them. The government won't give Day's dying family medicine to survive. And June is a teen prodigy, who is the smartest and most precious child of the Republic, but she does like to cause some mischief. When June's brother is murdered, she and Day discover the true murder and uncover the government's hidden secrets.

2. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

This contemporary novel is very unique, and not the most basic thing you would pick up and just find anywhere. While there is a movie to the book, the movie has the general plot down, but I thought the movie wasn't a great interpretation of the book at all. Samantha is a typical, basic, and popular senior, and for all the popular upper-classmen "Cupid's Day" is a day where they get a ton of valentines, notes, and roses.

She was enjoying her life entirely until she dies in a terrible accident that night, but the impossible happens: she keeps dying. She must uncover the main cause of her death and right her wrongs.

3. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Aveyard's novel captures a dystopian feel to the book. In this novel, the world is divided into two: Silver-bloods, superpowered gods living on this earth, and Red-bloods, commoners found useless to the community. Mare Barrow doesn't realize her power until she starts working at the Silver Palace, and then it all happens.

Mare's powers are triggered, and she is no longer a Red-blood nor a Silver-blood. The Silver-blood royals then try to hide her in plain sight, declaring her a "long lost princess" to cover up the truth. One crooked line could result in Mare's death, so Mare must stay on high alert. Secretly, she works with a Red guard and army to take down the Silver regime right under the noses of the Silver Royals.
