July 31, 2023

As the summer sun blazes across the cloudless skies, there's no better place to be than the sandy shores of beaches with your friends, where laughter mixes with the crashes of the waves. But amidst all the excitement, one question often remains unanswered: What should you pack to fuel your beach adventures? In this article, I’ve compiled valuable tips to ensure your beach bag is filled with the top nine most satisfying and hassle-free bites. So get ready to take your beach game to the next level with these irresistible and nourishing beachside delights!

Tip #1: Pack a Cooler or Insulated Bag

With the sun shining brightly, it's essential to keep your food fresh and safe to eat. Pack a small cooler with ice packs to keep perishables like yogurt, cheese, and sandwiches at a safe temperature. Reusable and refillable ice packs are great, as they are eco-friendly and more cost-effective in the long run compared to disposable ones.

However, if reusable ones are unavailable, simply make your own by freezing water in a ziplock bag. Remember to refreeze them after each use to keep them ready for your next beach adventure!

Tip #2: Stay Hydrated

Remember to pack plenty of water or other hydrating beverages! Spending time at the beach can be quite dehydrating, especially with the sun and physical activities involved. Opt for reusable water bottles to reduce waste and stay hydrated throughout the day.

Stainless steel or metal water bottles are ideal for keeping your water cool! It's essential to prioritize your health and well-being, and staying hydrated while having fun is a crucial part of that.

Tip #3 Opt for Non-Messy Options

As tempting as it may be to bring your favorite gooey or sticky treats, it's best to avoid messy foods when heading to the beach. Not only can sand easily find its way into your snack, but sticky fingers can make your beach experience less enjoyable. Choose snacks that won't leave you feeling sticky or require constant hand-washing to keep our beaches litter free!

Now with these tips in mind, let’s dive into the nine best snacks for a beach trip!

#1 Fruit Kebabs

Because of their natural sweetness, fruits are one of the healthiest, sweet, and refreshing treats to eat in the summer. Instead of bringing a fruit salad in a container, make it more fun by creating fruit kababs! Thread bite-sized pieces of honeydew, watermelon grapes, berries, and pineapple onto skewers for a colorful and nutritious snack. But make sure that the skewer you plan to use is sturdy enough to hold the delicious fruits you bring!

#2 Sandwich Wraps

Sandwich wraps are a beach-friendly twist on the classic sandwich. Opt for whole-grain tortillas as a healthier option and fill them with your favorite ingredients. Choose from lean protein like grilled chicken, turkey, or tofu, crunchy veggies (carrots and cucumbers are my favorite), and a spread of hummus or avocado for creaminess. Roll them up and wrap them tightly in parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy handling.

#3 Rice Cakes

Adding to the list of customizable foods, rice cakes are light and portable, making them an ideal beach snack. For a savory option, spread avocado and tomatoes; for a sweeter option, top them with yogurt and a drizzle of almond butter. Be creative with your creations!

#4 Frozen Grapes

As one of TikTok’s most viral summer treats, frozen grapes will most definitely keep you cool, hydrated, and refreshed during your time on the beach. Freeze some seedless grapes overnight and pack them in an ice pack the next day. These are one of the most accessible food items to make and are perfect for a fruit sorbet substitution!

#5 Yogurt Parfait

Create your portable yogurt parfait by layering your favorite yogurt (plain Greek yogurt is the healthiest option!) with granola, fresh berries, and a light drizzle of honey. This delightful treat is both tasty and nourishing, providing a good mix of protein, fiber, and probiotics.

#6 Mini Caprese Skewers

With just three ingredients, Caprese salads have some of the most complex flavors. To enjoy this salad mess-free at the beach, create mini caprese skewers with cherry tomatoes, mini mozzarella balls, and fresh basil leaves. Drizzle with balsamic glaze or a touch of olive oil for added flavor.

#7 Trail Mix

Trail mix offers the perfect blend of flavors and textures. Create your own combination with various nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and a touch of dark chocolate chips for a treat — or opt for a healthy store-bought one (with no refined sugar, if possible). This power-packed snack is full of healthy fats, protein, and fiber, making it an excellent choice for sustained energy during beach adventures.

#8 Frozen Banana Pop

Satisfy your ice cream cravings with a healthier alternative! Peel some bananas and insert popsicle sticks into each half, then freeze. Dip them in melted dark chocolate and roll them in crushed nuts or coconut flakes.

Freeze until firm again, and voilà - you've got yourself a nutritious frozen treat! Bananas are rich in potassium and antioxidants, making these pops a beach snack that your body (and sweet tooth) will love.

*Special Tip: Poke the bottom end of the skewer through a cupcake liner so that you won’t need to worry about the mess if the pop starts to melt!

#9 Icy Beverages

Nothing beats the creamy goodness of smoothies when it comes to staying hydrated. Throw any fruit or vegetable into your blender, along with yogurt or toppings of your choice, and pour into a spill-proof cup. For an icy beverage, blend together frozen watermelon chunks and lime juice to create a refreshing slushy!
