My Top 5 Influential & Impactful Songs of 2020

Student Life

Many teenagers resort to music to help them cope with the stress and mental health issues that have arisen during the pandemic. I go to music when I feel troubled because it brings a sense of comfort and joy to me. So today, I would like to share my top 5 influential and impactful songs that comforted me greatly during the hard times of 2020.

1. IT'S OK NOT TO BE OK - DEMI LOVATO & MARSHMELLO

During the tough times of 2020, I was really able to lean on this song for comfort. It carries an amazing message that tells you about putting the stress of life aside and solving your problems one bite at a time. When you're feeling down or broken inside by the troubles of life, you have to be kind to yourself. Taking things easy is important and understanding that you're only human and deserve a break. It's okay not to be okay sometimes.

Additionally, Demi Lovato has poured their own feelings and memories into it when she sings this song. You can feel the strength of the message in their delivery and voice. Even the official video and cover of this song show the beauty of learning how to take things easy and slow during these times. It has definitely helped many recover from the difficult parts of 2020, so give it a listen if you haven't already!

2. THE MAN - TAYLOR SWIFT

This song was a complete surprise to me as I had never listened to a lot of Taylor Swift songs, to begin with. However, when I gave it a listen, I was shocked! It was brilliant!

It carries a powerful message for all girls out there to hear and learn from. Taylor did a perfect job delivering the message that "you don't need to be a man to succeed" to all the girls out there. She expressed her feministic point of view in our modern-day world and how equality is important. I felt stronger and happier after I had heard this song. It had definitely exceeded ALL my expectations.

I HIGHLY recommend listening to 'The Man' by Taylor Swift, regardless of your gender, as it carries a message we should all learn from and spread.

3. ON - BTS

Now, for those of you who live under a rock and STILL don't know who BTS is, they are currently THE BIGGEST K-pop band (arguably the biggest boy band) in the world.

The song 'ON' was loved by many (including myself) to a great extent and I think the meaning behind this song is pretty deep as well. Personally, I thought it had a lot to do with fighting back and facing all the hardships and hurdles of life head-on! It's about aiming right at the target without backing out, and sometimes missing the bullseye as part of the learning process.

Additionally, I felt that the members were also trying to try to convey their hardships and sacrifices to reach where they are. The boldness of the rhythm and chorus really emphasized that message. In the end, it's an impactful and beautiful song with a strong moral that should be shared with everyone all over the world.

P.S: It's also unbelievably catchy.

4. KINGS & QUEENS - AVA MAX

This. Song. Rules.

Kings & Queens by Ava Max is an extremely motivating song about empowerment. As soon as I heard the lyrics, I was in love. It's very catchy and Ava Max's voice carries a sense of power that has a strong, positive impact on your mind and body. She pours her heart out when she sings this song, and you can truly feel it in her voice. It's a feeling of empowerment and fearlessness.

I recommend this song to those (regardless of gender again) to hear when they are feeling down and need motivation. It has lifted me up many times through the hardships that I've faced in the past year, and I am very grateful. It's also a song that I jammed to for fun because of its catchiness. Overall, it's a spectacular song!

5. CONFETTI - LITTLE MIX

Confetti by Little Mix is a song that carries the message of pulling yourself back up no matter how far down you are. It was also delivered in an interesting and unique way. I mean, I am a Little Mix fan, so perhaps my bias might be influencing this opinion. Regardless, I think this song is #LIT.

The song talks about how you should move on from the past (in this case, a relationship), and how to make a new life. It's important to know how to rise from rock bottom and strive to reach the top again. The line, "I'ma let the good things in my life rain down," talks about looking at the optimistic side of life. Each member's vocals emphasize the power of the song and establish a hardcore (and catchy) chorus.

I highly recommend this song to everyone out there who needs a boost of confidence and motivation to move on from their hardships.

Now as we've reached the end of this article, I'd like to say that I hope the songs listed above have raised you up from the tough parts of life. I hope now you feel like a completely different person. An empowered and confident one ready to take on anything that comes your way!
