Pop Culture

January 11, 2021

In a TikTok video that went viral this mid-September, a simple braceless smile earned 9.2M likes. It's also received 72M views (that's more than the capacity of Wembley Stadium times 700.) Sounds crazy and surreal, right?

That's exactly what happened to British teen Lola Clark, known as @scoobiezoobie on TikTok, who now has over 4M fans on the video-creating app.

Meet Lola Clark, aka ScoobieZoobie

With 4.2 Million followers on TikTok as of publication, Lola's making quite the influence on the app under her username @scoobiezoobie. All of her recent videos have at least 1M views.

Ever since her smile, she's even had fan accounts made under her name- and a vast majority of TikTok know of the girl with the smile.

But who really is the girl with the smile?

The Teen Magazine had the chance to interview Lola to get to better know her as compared to 15 second clips on the internet. Meet Lola Clark!

Millions of Views and Likes

When you went viral, what was your reaction? Who was the first person you told about your viral video, and what was their reaction?

My main hype man is my sister Tilly. So when I got out of school and found my ‘ya dig’ video popping off, she had to be the first person I told.

Insecurities

Given that you became so popular because of your smile, did you ever feel uncomfortable or insecure by it?

When I had braces I felt insecure, because I felt like I couldn’t open my mouth freely.

Now that they’ve been taken off, I’m just gassed [that] I can smile without feeling insecure. I am happy with how I look and how I smile.

To be honest, I don’t think the braces had much to do with this. I just feel happier within myself, and I think that other people can see that- self love is a message I really want to put out there.

Internet Hate

Have you ever encountered hate? If you have, how have you managed it and maintained positive?

Unfortunately on the internet it is hard to find anyone who doesn’t get hate, and I'm definitely not an exception. I just try to put out content that will uplift people.

I am also fortunate enough to have the best support network, from my family, friends and lovely lil zoobies (my fans).

Content Creation

Tiktok is a relatively new social media and it is constantly changing on trends- as a content creator on this platform, is it ever complicated regarding content creation?

Yes, but it keeps things exciting and new- which I think is what keeps TikTok original, and constantly exciting.

This has been so important this year because almost every week there has been a new challenge or trend, which has for sure kept my family entertained.

Keep on Groovin'

How do you maintain to keep yourself creative and motivated?

My motivation is maintained by always making sure to be listening to music that makes me feel hyped. As far as creativity is concerned, all different kinds of things inspire me day to day, my fans always have lots of ideas for me too.

Favorite Part of the App

What is your favorite aspect of the TikTok community?

I love being a part of a community which is so individualistic, and international. This means we can share aesthetics and ideas from all across the world.

The Pros and Cons

What are the positives and negatives of being a well known TikToker?

I am really thankful to have a platform where I feel comfortable to express myself, and spread positivity.

Although, sometimes, I feel overwhelmed by the attention my page gets.

More About Lola

Your followers see your life through a phone screen, but we know that there is more to Lola. How would a typical day for you be like?

I am just a normal kid; I go to school Monday to Friday, I have to revise for my GCSE’s. I chill with my dogs and fish, Jamie.

Before the pandemic, I had just discovered going on dinner dates with my friends. And I’m always doodling, and taking photos.
