Small Ways to Become Healthier

Mental Health & Self Love

Being healthy is a journey, and can be fun. It affects everything like your mind, acne, energy, and so much more. I'm sure you have also committed to some healthful acts that you don't even know about yet. Let's get right into it.

1. Smoothies

If you are someone who is into protein shakes or smoothies, incorporate one cup of spinach into your drink. It's a good way to get in some vegetables and barely taste a difference. I love this method.

I added frozen fruits like strawberries, grapes, pineapples, and then the spinach. If you love lettuce, instead switch over to spinach, and add it to your pizza or sandwiches. Spinach actually has more nutritional value per serving than lettuce.

2. Sleep enough

Everyone always says to get eight to ten hours of sleep at night. Sometimes it's impossible when you have a paper due or to study for a big test. Let me tell you that, cramming the night before a big test actually makes your brain tired and you won't retain as much information.

Do not stay up drinking coffee or energy drinks. Try planning study guides weeks in advance. The most important thing about sleeping is to have a regular schedule even if you only get seven hours.

3. Enjoy your Carbs

When you're trying to be healthy, really don't look at the numbers, and don't represent yourself as numbers. It's always good to enjoy foods you love, and even healthy foods you love or else you will feel like everything is dieting and restrictions. That will only make you feel negative. Enjoy some healthy carbs by eating oatmeal, bagels, wheat bread, sweet potatoes, and foods that will replace the junk snack habits we have.

4. Socialize

The biggest obstacle to being healthy is wanting to go out with friends to the pizza joint, having movie nights with lots of junk food, and staying up late with friends. This all can be done. You don't want to say no to your friends every weekend so definitely reward yourself for your efforts during the week of being healthy. Also, it's okay to go out and eat small portions of the food you do want, or to select healthy alternatives like grilled chicken or even wheat pizza.

5. EveryBODY with Iskra

A new app called Everybody with Iskra was created by a now plus-size model, Iskra, who advocates for being our best selves. Her app is all about fun exercises, fun foods to enjoy, learning about yourself, and more without the feel of dieting, calorie counting, or even weighing yourself. This app is completely different from weight loss apps.

Iskra has been campaigning with American Eagle for years now for the #aeriereal campaign.

Changing up the way you live to be a better you and living healthier can be challenging, but in the end, it helps you stay energized and be yourself.
